Howell Mountain Wine Tours

Perched high above the valley floor, the Howell Mountain area offers beautiful views, picturesque vineyards and spectacular wines. It’s an ideal place to explore for lovers of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel, as well as Chardonnay and Viognier.

Some fantastic wineries in this Appellation are: Arkenstone, Cade, Cimarossa, Haber, Ladera, O’Shaugnessy, Outpost, Viader

Arkenstone Vineyards was founded in 1988 when proprietors Ron and Susan Krausz purchased their unique Howell Mountain AVA property. The majority of the vineyards were planted in 1998, with additional planting taking place in 2009. Arkenstone produces all of their wine on the Estate, entirely below ground, in state-of-the-art winery caves. Their first release, after patiently waiting for the vineyards to reach maturity, was the 2006 Vintage.

CADE Estate Winery sits high above the fog line on the dramatic slopes of Howell Mountain, just northeast of the town of St. Helena. The building’s striking architecture, a dialogue between gentle contours and strong rectilinear forms, suggests the complexity of our wines– powerful yet nuanced expressions of our mountain terroir. The winery blends right in with the impressive contrasts of our estate, a spot where cultivated vineyard rows meet tall evergreens and native Manzanita trees, all set against a backdrop of staggering Napa Valley vistas for a visitor experience not soon forgotten.

Cimarossa 707-307-3130
Located at 2100 feet in elevation on the Vaca range in Napa Valley, the Cimarossa “red hilltop” Vineyard flourishes in its native and natural setting. What might seem like a simple score given the farm plots that are available in the wine country, in reality, took Dino and Corry over 10 years to locate. One visit will confirm—it was worth the wait, with unrivaled 360 degree views of mountains, wilderness, and the valley floor below.
Ladera 50 White Cottage Rd S, Angwin, CA 94508 (707) 965-2445

Ladera Vineyards is the home of estate grown and produced hillside Cabernet Sauvignon focused on our Howell Mountain Appellation Cabernet. Behind this wine is our historic 1886 restored and renovated stone winery and underground barrel caves.

O’Shaugnessy   707-965-2898

Our Howell Mountain vineyard resides on a 100 acre hillside property. Planted between 1997 and 2002 are 29 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. We also cultivate 6 acres of blending varietals. The vines span two distinct vineyards which we have the privilege of farming. Amphitheater vineyard derives its name from its shape across the hillside. Rancho del Oso, nearest the winery, is our original vineyard. The Howell Mountain region is home to many great California Cabernets. A day here in the mountains can include tours at neighboring wineries that we can suggest to you as well.

Outpost   2075 Summit Lake Dr, Angwin, CA 94508 (707) 965-1718

Outpost was established in 1998 with the vision of producing wines that are a living, breathing embodiment of this magical place. Truly one of the world’s great Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel growing regions, the unique terroir of the Outpost vineyards – the hard, rocky red soil, high altitude, gentle cooling breezes and sunny western exposure – produces fruit of incredible intensity and richness, with a distinctive spice you simply cannot find anywhere else.
